Jacco Oliver

Jacco Olivier fusiona pintura i cinema re-elaborant repetidament pintures amb generoses pinzellades casuals i fotografiant sistemàticament cada pas. Les diferents etapes es combinen en animacions projectades. Les pel·lícules resultants són enigmàtiques i experiencials: entrant i sortint de l’abstracció, revelen les petjades i les decisions preses per l’artista durant el procés de pintar. Les pel·lícules s’imaginen com a finestres a moments convergents, i sovint elegantment simples, de la vida quotidiana.

Perpetuum (2022)

En aquesta animació pintada, una figura humana és impulsada cap amunt per les implacables ones, que recorden el salt en un trampolí. No obstant això, aquest rebot és implacable i s’impulsa activament cap amunt, aconseguint les estrelles i més enllà. És un retrat d’alegria, resiliència interior i lliurament controlat, un reflex de l’esperança i el plaer que es troben entre les forces naturals. La figura encarna un esperit estoic però juganer, harmonitzant amb els elements, navegant de forma juganera pel flux i reflux de la vida.

Rabbit Hole (2011)

Rabbit Hole is presented on a monitor embedded in the ground. Viewed from above, Rabbit Hole depicts Olivier’s painterly brushstrokes gliding slowly outwards to the edges of the frame, a feeling of movement downward and inward, towards an uncertain end.

Bird (2011)

Originally commissioned by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, New York, for an exhibition at Madison Square Park, December 2011-March 2012.

This video depicts a sequence of brightly colored birds, beginning with one that is recognizable as a parrot, and ending with simple flipbook style sketches of a generic bird in flight. For just a few seconds, one, then another bird is differently rendered in color and set in motion. The work fades out, then loops to the beginning. Painted from memory, the animation evokes the parrots that fly by the window of Olivier’s Amsterdam Studio. In Can Reon, Bird exists where a bird might be, in the air.
